Why Choose a Meta-Coach?

 August 7, 2019

Choosing your coach is one of the most important decisions you will make. Think about this for a moment, a Coach is there to assist you with your professional and personal development, so that you can step into your highest potential and live your best life. This means that your Coach and their skills and knowledge – to coach you – determines the quality of your coaching experience – therefore your outcomes. Given that coaching is a serious commitment on your behalf, wouldn’t you want the best possible Coach that you can find?

You may be asking yourself at this point, “but aren’t are all Coaches created equal… don’t they all do the same thing?” The answer is NO. Given that professional coaching is a relatively new industry which is not yet regulated, the disparity among coaches skill sets can range from a well-intentioned individual completing a weekend workshop and calling themselves a Coach, to a professional who has been through some of the world’s most rigorous coach training and bench-marking, with hundreds of hours of ‘coaching practice’ behind them, such as Meta-Coach. So, What is Meta-Coaching?

Meta-Coaching is the art of facilitating the processes with an individual or organization to a specific agreed upon outcome by means of a ruthlessly compassionate conversation that gets to the heart of things— the client’s core meanings and thereby identifying and mobilizing inner and outer resources for generative change that leads to develop, unleash, and actualize the client’s potentials for achieving his or her dreams.

Dr Michael Hall.

Meta-Coaching is a methodology for professional coaching which utilizes the very best of NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) and NS (Neuro-semantics), which uses over 300 tools and techniques to achieve self-actualization for the individual.

It was developed in 2001 by Dr Michael Hall and Michelle Duval after they interviewed many of the world’s top executive coaches to identify the most effective skills and methods for coaching. They wanted to know what the difference was between a mediocre coach, and one who was highly productive, effective, and professional. This is where the Meta-Coaching system was born.

You might be wondering, what the “Meta” in Meta-Coaching means? Meta means that we coach at higher levels, to expand a person’s meta-programs. Meta Programs are mental processes which manage, guide and direct other mental processes. A Meta-Coach focuses on this ‘inner game’ which is governing the ‘outer game’ for their clients. Given the influence that these programs have on the way we process information, a Meta-Coach is able to quickly identify where the leverage for change can occur.

Meta-Coaches work with people from the level of structure and process about their content. This means that no matter what content you are wanting to engage a coach to assist you with, a Meta-coach is a great choice because whilst you are the expert of you, we understand the structure and process of how you do you.

What Skills Does a Meta-Coach Have?

The training to become a Meta-Coach is demanding and comprehensive. Many hours of training in NLP and NS and the Meta-Coaching system is required. We can confidently say that Meta-Coaching is at the leading edge of coaching today because of the rigorous bench-marking milestones, across 7 core competencies, with many sub-skills within each competency, that must be reached for certification.

Meta-Coaches are highly skilled listeners, equipped with hundreds of quality Meta-questions that get straight to the heart of the matter for you. We explore and co-create strategies that act as pathways for you to actualize what you want. And we are adept in challenging, supporting, and in giving feedback. We act as a mirror to reflect back to you what you may not be able to see is holding you back. Now who wouldn’t want this highly valuable information?

Top 3 Three Benefits of Coaching With a Meta-Coach.

Meta-Coaching promotes empowerment not dependence.

Meta-Coaches assume that you have all the internal resources you need to succeed. This means that Meta-Coaches do not teach, train or give advice, because we believe that you are the expert of your own life, therefore we assist you to access, develop and sequence your own resources so you can think for yourself and run your own brain. This empowers people and promotes self-responsibility and self-accountability at the highest level, where you learn to think critically, problem solve and develop your own strengths. You ultimately start to self-coach and self-actualize.

Meta-Coaching is Holistic in its approach, achieving lasting embodied change.

Many coaching frameworks are behavioral in their approach… do this behaviour, stop doing that behaviour. The problem with this is that the psychology behind the behaviour never really gets addressed. So, what could be a highly transformational coaching session turns out to be a very expensive conversation which has little to no lasting impact for the client.

Meta-Coaching addresses the psychology and the behaviour through our holistic approach. We work by integrating the multiple intelligence's of an individual (Intellect, emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence). We coach the entire mind-body-emotion-spirit system as a whole. We address beliefs, values, identity, patterns of thinking and behaviour so that the change can take place at the Meta-level needed to bring about lasting and impactful results for you.

Meta-Coaching is transformational… enhancing quality of life across all contexts

Through the process of Meta-Coaching, your self-reflexivity grows, your self-awareness deepens and your blind spots are uncovered. This has massive implications for the enhancement of your quality of life, not only in the workplace but in your personal life also. Because we coach the entire body-mind-emotion-spirit system, you not only experience shifts in your performance, and results, but you will discover new ways of thinking, perceiving, experiencing and behaving, becoming the master of your own life. With the help of a Meta-Coach you can co-create a new inner game that manifests itself in a new outer game which allows you to succeed across many aspects of your life.

Conclusion

By far the greatest experience of Meta-Coaching is in learning how to address interference's, those things that are getting in the way of you getting what you want, both in your professional and personal life.
